278 WTHW80 PHFO 260028 HLSHFO HIZ023-026>028-051>054-260830- Hurricane Hone Local Statement Intermediate Advisory Number 14A National Weather Service Honolulu HI CP012024 228 PM HST Sun Aug 25 2024 This product covers the Hawaiian islands **HONE MOVING WESTWARD AWAY FROM THE ISLANDS AND ALL TROPICAL WARNINGS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - All watches and warnings have been canceled * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * STORM INFORMATION: - About 170 miles south of Honolulu or about 130 miles west-southwest of Kailua-Kona - 18.9N 157.9W - Storm Intensity 80 mph - Movement West-northwest or 290 degrees at 14 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ The center of Hurricane Hone is located about 130 miles west- southwest of Kailua-Kona and 170 miles south of Honolulu as of 2PM HST, moving west-northwest at 14 mph. Hone will continue to move toward the west-northwest on a high-confidence track to the south of the islands for the next couple of days before leaving the local area by Tuesday. All tropical storm watches and warnings have been discontinued for land areas. Flash flooding will continue to be a concern through tonight as additional rain bands associated with Hone impact the islands, primarily for portions of the Big Island (Hilo, Puna, and Kau Districts) and windward Maui. Widespread rainfall of 10 to 15 inches has already fallen across windward Big Island over the past 24 hours, with some locally higher amounts of 18 inches or more. Additional rainfall of 2 to 4 inches over portions of the Big Island and 1 to 2 inches over portions of Maui are expected through tonight. See the latest Flood Watch for more details. Strong trade winds will continue over and downwind of island terrain through tonight, then taper down Monday into mid-week. A High Wind Warning remains in effect for portions of Maui County, with Wind Advisories for a majority of the rest of the state. See the latest NPWHFO product for additional information. Large and disorganized short-period swell associated with Hurricane Hone will continue to bring elevated surf to most east facing shores through this afternoon.
